Let the galaxy burn!

Warmaster Horus Lupercal

From the skies of Terra to the galactic rim, the Horus Heresy has split the galaxy in two. Legions fight against once close brothers, now barely recognizable to what they once were in the Great Crusade. Horus Lupercal, once brightest of the Emperor’s primarchs, has rebelled, and the entire galaxy is cast into his ever-darkening shadow.

A new expansion is on its way for The Horus Heresy: Legions, focusing on the original 4 traitor Legions that made their allegiance clear on the surface of Isstvan III. Prepare for the arrival of the Shadow of the Warmaster. Prepare for The Horus Heresy.

New beginnings

The Shadow of the Warmaster expansion brings a completely new take on the Legions that took onto the battlefield when the game first released: Sons of Horus, Emperor’s Children, Death Guard and World Eaters. These Legions have gathered under the Warmaster’s banner and severed from those loyal to the Imperium. Now nothing will stop them from reaching Terra to slay the Emperor.

The Legions featured in this expansion have been built from scratch. Some names will be familiar, but you can expect completely new artwork, voice lines and gameplay. The first batch of new cards, aptly the Sons of Horus, will release in late January. Two weeks after, the Emperor’s Children will also join the game, followed by the Death Guard and World Eaters in two-week intervals. Same as with the game’s previous expansions, a new set of neutral cards will become collectable two weeks after the release of the new Legions, together with the new expansion crates.

A Legacy Untold

So, what will happen to the original cards? When the Shadow of the Warmaster expansion releases, the Isstvan III cards will stop appearing in the shop. Also, cards from this card set will no longer be legal for play in Ranked Mode. The original four Legions and neutral cards of the Isstvan III set will be the first ones to become only playable in the new Legacy Mode.

In Legacy Mode, players will be able to fit their decks with any card that has been released to date. In fact, the rebuilt Legions in the Shadow of the Warmaster expansion will be able to join efforts with its original counterparts in the same deck! This also means that any deck built when the new content releases will always be legal for play in Legacy Mode, but it might require some tweaks to play with it in Ranked Mode if it includes, for example, neutral cards from sets that have rotated out.

Great battles lie ahead

And that is not all! Later down the year during Q4 2023 we will see the release of Shattered Legions, another new expansion for The Horus Heresy: Legions. The Iron Hands, Salamanders and Raven Guard will join once again to slay the imminent traitor threat and stop their advance before it spreads too far.

Stay tuned for further information about the Shadow of the Warmaster expansion, and card reveals closer to the date of release!
