Unto the anvils of war!
Determined to protect humanity until their last breath, the Salamanders step into the battlefields of Isstvan V. The zealous hosts of Vulkan will be the second new Legion to join the game as part of the Dropsite Massacre expansion when they release on Friday, August 4th. They will be led by none other than their Primarch, Vulkan, as they attempt to break Horus’ ambitions.
Get ready to unleash the flames of Nocturne upon the battlefield and crush your enemies with masterly crafted artifacts! Mankind must be protected at all cost and the threats to humanity will burn in a raging inferno.
The Salamanders on Isstvan V
With a thundering crash, almost the full might of Vulkan’s Legion reached the surface of Isstvan V. Over forty thousand legionaries pierced the atmosphere on gunships and Drop Pods, landing along the Urgall Depression. Their task was to strike the left flank of Horus’ forces, while their brother Legions took care of the rest of the rebels. Methodically, the XVIIIth Legion pushed through, covering the black sands of Isstvan V with the remnants of the traitors that fell to the flames of Nocturne.
The determined Legion advanced through enemy lines, but an undetected cloud of miasma covered the battlefield, catching some of the Legion’s strength unawares. Their forces collapsed under the effect of the poisonous air, while the enemy regained their position. Not all of the Death Guard‘s weapons were as obvious as a bolter or as noble as a sword, but Vulkan and his Legion would have to face and destroy them if they wanted any hope of stopping the rebellion. If there was a force that could face Mortarion and his retinue and live to tell the tale, it would be the fiery hosts of Nocturne.
Salamanders Warlords
Many great Salamanders warriors took a stand against treachery on Isstvan V, but among them, three of their mightiest heroes were chosen to lead the Legion into the fray:
- Kaer’shan: A Promethean Cult devotee, this Forge Warden earned his title by mastering the hammer in the forge and in the battlefield.
- Artellus Numeon: Terran-born First Captain of the Firedrakes, he’d pay the ultimate price to bring back his Primarch after Isstvan V.
- Vulkan: One of the Primarch brothers and leader of the Salamanders. As implacable as the fires of Nocturne, Vulkan became a symbol of hope and self-sacrifice during the Great Crusade.
Stoke the flames of the forge
The new cards of the Salamanders introduce a new type of card into the game: ARTIFACTS. Similarly to the Iron Hands’ Augmetics and the Agents of the Sigillite’s Seals, ARTIFACTS are non-collectable cards that can only be generated via in-game effects of Salamanders cards.
ARTIFACTS are useful tactics representing the armaments and tools that Vulkan and his Legion masterly craft in the forges of their homeworld of Nocturne. The 7 different ARTIFACTS at their disposal fulfil a variety of roles, from improving an ally’s capability to fight to wreaking havoc among enemy lines. Armed with these powerful tools, the Salamanders are ready to face any threat in the heat of battle.

How to start collecting them
There are many ways to collect Salamanders cards, especially during the first weeks after their release! Take a look at them:
- Salamanders faction crates contain 5 random cards, 3 of them guaranteed from the NEW Salamanders collection including a rare card or better, and the other 2 from all cards released so far in the Shadow of the Warmaster and Dropsite Massacre expansions.
- Get AMAZING VALUE with a time-limited bundle containing Kaer’shan, 15 Salamanders crates and an exclusive premium Kaer’shan avatar, available from the Legion’s release until 9 AM UTC on 7th August.
- Take advantage of the current Battle Pass! Select the Salamanders as your preferred faction and start collecting them through card rewards. Unlock the Premium Pass to get even more rewards, including Legendary cards, exclusive cosmetics and an ALTERNATE ART!
- Play the new event showcasing the Salamanders and fill your collection! Each reward crate in the upcoming ‘The Breaking of a Brotherhood’ event has at least 1 of the new legion’s cards.
- Check out the Daily shop! Every day there will be new cards for sale with gems for a limited time. Keep your eyes open!
New event: The anvils of war
A new timed event will allow all players to play with the Salamanders in draft mode. As the loyalist offensive on Isstvan V develops, Vulkan and his legion lead the charge on the left blank. Lined up against them are the forces of the Death Guard, which deploy all their toxic weaponry to break the Salamanders’ lines. Join the fray and help decide who will prevail, as Vulkan and his sons clash against the forces of the Lord of Decay!
Remember to complete the guaranteed “Win 3 matches” daily mission to unlock a free event run every day and kickstart your Iron Hands collection. Every reward crate in the event contains at least 1 of the new cards!
