Put your opponent’s deck to better use
Lost and without a supply chain, many Blackshields resorted to plundering, piracy and any method at hand to stock up on munitions and resources. Many effects in the Blackshields collection are focused on copying cards from the opponent’s deck. Other Blackshields cards also allow to further capitalize on this by making it easier to play created cards or triggering additional effects when they are played.
These ragtag warbands were comprised of Astartes from many different Legions, increasing their flexibility and unpredictability in battle. Not only does the new Blackshields collection feature mechanics from a wide array of Legion, but they also have a new type of Tactics: Warbands. This trait has no effect by itself but it marks a number of specialised Tactics that can be both included in a deck during its creation and created during a battle through special effects.
What will happen to the Orphans of War?
The Horus Heresy is constantly changing as the Warmaster creeps closer to Terra. To keep in line with their latest representations in Horus Heresy media and our plans for this faction, the Orphans of War have been renamed to Blackshields. All the Orphans of War cards released during the Titandeath expansion will become part of the Blackshields collection, even if some of them do not entirely fit the faction. On this set and going forward, though, only Blackshields will be released for this faction.
Blackshield Warlords
Though shrouded in mystery, there are still many Blackshield warriors who carved their names among the stars in red. The three Warlords who will lead the new Blackshields when the faction first joins the fray are:
- Kitur Neferis: Believing his Legion lost with Prospero, he now spills blood to carve out a future for psykers.
- Erud Vahn: More devoted to Mars than to his Legion, this Techmarine later found his place among Haar’s warband.
- Endryd Haar: Leading the Fangs of the Emperor, Haar will seize any opportunity to exact vengeance on the Warmaster.

How to collect them
There are many ways to collect the new Blackshields, especially during the first weeks after their release! Take a look at them:
- Blackshields faction crates contain 5 random cards, 3 of them guaranteed from the NEW Blackshields collection including a rare card or better, and the other 2 from all cards released since the Shadow of the Warmaster expansion.
- Get AMAZING VALUE with a time-limited bundle containing Kitur Neferis, 15 Blackshields crates and an exclusive premium avatar, available during the faction’s release weekend.
- Take advantage of the current and upcoming Battle Pass! Select the Blackshields as your preferred faction AFTER THE FACTION IS RELEASED and start collecting them through card rewards. Unlock the Premium Pass to get even more rewards, including Legendary cards, exclusive cosmetics and new content!
- Play the new event pitting the Blackshields against the forces of the Warmaster and fill your collection! Each reward crate in the event has at least 1 of the new faction’s cards.
- Check out the Daily shop! Every day there will be new cards for sale with gems for a limited time. Keep your eyes open!
New event: Monsters and Martyrs
A new timed event will allow all players to play with the Blackshields in draft mode. The Heresy’s brutality left many Space Marines stranded without a Primarch, a Legion or a cause to believe in. These orphans of war fought their own battles outside of the grand schemes of Horus or the Emperor.
Remember to complete the guaranteed “Win 3 matches” daily mission to unlock a free event run every day and kickstart your Blackshields collection. Every reward crate in the event contains at least 1 of the new cards!
The new Blackshields enter the fray on 15th November! Will you take arms and fight for your own survival and goals? Will your path be weaved by bitterness and betrayal? Get ready to muster the broken Astartes and fight!
